GPS Tourism

The Pyrenees is a territory with enormous cultural and natural assets, and tourist potential. Over many years, infrastructures and services linked to sustainable mobility in tourism but that also meet the needs of the local population have been developed. This development is aligned with the upward trend of a tourist profile that is committed to a healthy and sustainable lifestyle.

However, the consolidation of these products in this territory remains scant, due to its small size and international visibility, and because of a business sector that has no mechanisms to support it with adapting to the demands of these markets.

GPS Tourism approaches this trans-border challenge by promoting the economic and tourist revitalisation of the Pyrenees through public-private cooperation by committing to gentle mobility as a unique strategy of individualisation of the tourist offer and of support for a sustainable tourist model.

The project seeks to improve territorial tourist connectivity, increase its international visibility through a common seal, adapt public and private facilities, and companies to a sustainable mobility strategy, be inspired by best European practices, create new tourist products and conceive trans-border management structures.

The increase in visitors and deseasonalisation will have a clear impact on the local economy and on job creation in SMEs in the sector.

What is POCTEFA 2014-2020?

POCTEFA 2014-2020 constitutes the fifth generation of community financial support allocated to reinforcing the economic and social integration of this zone. POCTEFA cofinances trans-border cooperation projects designed and managed by players on both sides of the Pyreness and of the coastal zones that participate in the programme by preserving the smart, sustainable, and integrating devleopment of the territory.

POCTEFA 2014-2020 is the acronym for the INTERREG V-A Spain-France-Andorra Programme. This is a European territorial cooperation programme created to foster the sustainable development of the border territory between the three countries.
